Internship Duties

About Lockheed martin

About Lockheed martin

My internship included work both remotely and in person where I saw key components of machinery along with high-end individuals that helped better my understanding of deep-space exploration. As a team, we were designing a mission for a small SAT named ESOX to travel to Enceladus to explore the subterranean oceans for forms of life using chemical propulsion in order to reach our destination. I was in charge of the mechanical aspect along with the design and power components of our satellite. I researched vital materials, components, and size requirements for our mission to be successful and revolve around Enceladus for two years. Our work has been unstructured giving us the freedom to figure out when items of our mission need to be done along with how to get them to that stage. Everyone has been very helpful in giving us insight into what we are proposing as a team and mentors are always there to support us through our journey.

    Challenges and Successes

Some of the biggest challenges revolved around communication with my team and having our team leader help give us assignments to focus on. This plan planning and coordinating with one another is extremely difficult. A major success was that we were able to propose a feasible mission along with our small SAT having a ride share to get the satellite into Enceladus orbit.

    Takeaways

My biggest takeaway was the ability to work in a group setting while functioning in a high-standard work environment. The ability to regulate the workload on my own was a big challenge but better prepared me for my future as an engineer. This experience fielded my confidence in the workforce giving me the ability to gain a new mindset for working in such companies.

    Gratitude

I wanted to say a big thank you to all of the mentors who made this opportunity a reality, especially Joey Weston. He has been there since day one surveying our projects and meticulously searching for improvements. Everyone else was a major help as well in finalizing our satellite and allowing us to show our full potential through this internship and through the project we all created. I appreciate all the extra time that was put in by all the mentors to give us this opportunity and I want to congratulate all the interns for doing an amazing job and following through even when times got difficult. Again thank you to Joey Weston, Susan Linch, Madison Gast, Joshua Gustafson, Shri Nandoor, Ryan Kreigler, Matthew Reilly, and everyone else who has helped me along this journey of discovering my true passions and learning high-end skills.
